RONALD MCDONALD KINDERHAUS GRAZ
In May 2014, the Ronald McDonald Kinderhaus was opened directly on the grounds of the LKH University Hospital Graz. Only 200 meters away from the pediatric clinic, it offers families "a temporary home" while their child is being treated in the hospital.
The modern house is a place to recharge one's batteries, an oasis of peace and security for parents, grandparents and siblings of the young patients. Here they can largely maintain their family life and be there for each other during a difficult time - without high hotel costs and long journeys.
The Ronald McDonald House Graz helps between 30 and 40 families a month (over 500 families a year) during a time that is challenging for the whole family. In case that a baby is born premature, a child is diagnosed with cancer, or even when the child needs emergency treatment due to a serious accident. The parents always find a "temporary home" and can live here for as long as the child's treatment lasts. This takes an important burden off the shoulders of the families. The high occupancy rate of the house in Graz shows how important the work of Kinderhilfe has become. Ronald McDonald Kinderhilfe has been active in Austria for over 30 years.
